Sheffield Volunteering

Would you like to make a positive difference to the education of young people and gain professional experience that will can help to support your career?

The University of Sheffield Students’ Union (Sheffield Volunteering) have partnered with Inspiring Governance to actively encourage and support students and staff to take up school governor roles. Sheffield Volunteering helps students to make an impact in Sheffield and surrounding areas through volunteering in local communities. In 2021-22, students volunteered over 33,000 hours of their time in local communities and schools, and raised over £80,000 for good causes. Could you join them?

Becoming a governor is a rewarding experience that offers you a chance to give back to your community and support raising educational attainment in the South Yorkshire region, whilst at the same time enhancing your professional and personal development. Young people bring so much to the table but are under represented on school governing boards, perhaps because many are unaware of the benefits it offers for career progression, as well as a fantastic opportunity to support young people in their local communities.

Anyone over the age of 18 can become a governor. School governing boards need people from different backgrounds with a wide range of professional skills to drive school improvement across South Yorkshire.

Using your skills for good as well as benefiting from the feel-good factor of supporting the development of the next generation, all for just a few hours a month. What’s not to like? Sign up today to get started!
