Volunteers’ Week 2022: a huge thank you to all school governors

1st June marks the beginning of Volunteers’ Week, a time to celebrate the invaluable contribution that volunteers make to our communities – and we would like to say an extra special thank you to those that volunteer as a school governor.

Volunteer school governors bring their expertise, time and passion to the board table to help schools provide the best education experience for children and young people in their local communities. They help to shape the lives of the next generation and we would like to say a huge thank you and celebrate everyone who has become a governor through our service and the positive impact they make.

We spoke to Bridget Ampofo, a primary school teacher who volunteers as a governor at secondary school in Kent, who told us how she has found volunteering to be an enriching and fulfilling experience that helps support children in her local community. You can read our interview with Bridget here.

Ayed Galal, Senior Buyer at the Department for Education, explained that volunteering has given him invaluable insight into the education system that he supports in his day job – and why he would recommend the role to others in the civil service. You can read Ayed’s story here.

Hannah Cummins of the North East LEP told us about her experience of being a young person on the governing board, the benefits she brings to the table and how the role benefits both personally and professionally. Click here to read Hannah’s story.

Huge thanks to Bridget, Ayed and Hannah for the fantastic contribution they make to their local communities as volunteer school governors!

In fact, we at Inspiring Governance would like to send out 6,000 thank you’s – we are delighted to have reached 6,000 governor matches since we began offering our DfE-funded service. Of course, the work doesn’t stop there – we are determined to play our part in meeting the governor recruitment challenge, ensuring schools have the continued robust support and oversight they need.
