Meet Daisie Polius: quality manager and volunteer school governor

What inspired you to become a governor?

I discovered my passion for the education sector from my full time role as Quality Manager at T3 Training and Development, an academy that specialises in apprenticeship programmes. I really love helping people reach their goals and their potential through education, and I’m fortunate to work in a team that share the same passion, it’s really inspiring!

As a young governor, what do you feel you bring to the board table?

I think I bring a fresh perspective of ‘modern life’ – there is a significant age gap on most school boards, with the average age of a board member being 55, so I think having someone my age around the table means there is someone present who can connect with current learners, empathise with their needs and understand some of the issues they face.

What advice do you have for other young people considering getting involved?

Embrace the opportunity for learning and growth, don’t be scared to step into the unknown – governance is all about challenges and every question you ask, every challenge you bring forward, contributes to your personal development. It’s a journey of continuous learning and the more you engage, the more confident you will become.

Huge thanks to Daisie for sharing her story with us!
