Inspiring Cornwall

Inspiring Governance has teamed up with Cornwall Council, the Diocese of Truro, the Regional Schools Commission and joined Cornwall Chamber of Commerce to challenge employers to ‘Be a School Governor Champion’.

Schools In Cornwall are working alongside the Government-funded governor recruitment service Inspiring Governance to address the growing need for new volunteers in the county. People who would make excellent school governors are already living and working in Cornwall and Inspiring Governance is asking employers to inspire their staff to volunteer.

There are huge benefits to employers as having staff who are governors provides them with vital board-level experience and development in a wide variety of skills that are useful in everyday work situations.  And it’s totally free! So for employers it’s win-win situation

Don’t just take our word for it Fozia who governs at Pencoys Primary School says ‘I would say to anyone thinking about becoming a school governor – just come and do it. It’s a brilliant way to gain some awesome skills. Things I’ve learned through my job I’ve put into governance but many of the things I’ve learned through governance go into my job too. The big thing for me though is that it’s my local community and if you get the chance to put something back into it – you’ve got to do it!

Eileen Brocklehurst, the Regional Manager for the South West says, “I hope Cornish businesses and individuals will come forward to help local schools.  In return for the skills volunteers bring, they’ll take their governance experience back to their workplace and be able to apply it to their work role.  Feeding this learning into their team and organisation will be music to employers’ ears.  I’m always very happy to talk to people about what the role entails and the support Inspiring Governance can provide.”
